“I have been part of the Samford Community for the last seven years and it is the people, the community and the connections that make the Valley special,” said Mandy. “Members of the community go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and to connect with you and take time to build relationships.”
According to Mandy, the community spirit of Samford is reflected in the activities and events that take place across the region.
“There is something for everyone. If you are looking for a group to connect with Samford will have it from Lions Clubs and Men’s Shed to Rock N Roll dance classes. For members of the business community there is the Samford and Districts Chamber of Commerce and for those who are into their sport you can get involved with the Samford Rangers Football Club, Samford Stags Rugby League Club, Samford Valley Target Archers and more.”
“For people looking to volunteer or give back to their community, there are many ways to become involved. Samford & District Progress & Protection Association, Riding for the Disabled, Creative Samford, Rural Fire Brigade and more are all cornerstones of the community and always welcome new members, volunteers and supporters. The mark that groups like these make on our community cannot be overstated, they really do reflect the positive nature of Samford and its residents.”
As the region grows, with its lifestyle, beauty, community and proximity to Brisbane all being major drawcards, Mandy thinks that it is becoming the perfect place for families.
“For families, Samford is a great place to live. Samford State School, Samford Valley Steiner School, Mt Samson State School and Mt Nebo State School are all close by and there are some great local shops and attractions such as Samford District Historical Museum, Harry Potter Store, Baffies Oan Books & The Lifestyle Centre all of which offer something for families.”
“Little Tree Bake and Brew House, The Long Yard Larder, Famous Patisserie, Samford Gourmet Pizza are all great places to eat and there are brilliant hikes for all ages in and around Samford where you can see waterfalls and enjoy a picnic in some great spots.”
“I am also very excited about the future of the region, which, although growing, the future plans are presented to the community for consultation and support. A great example is how council have been in consultation with the community around the future plans of the old glasshouses up near the Community Hub. It will be wonderful to see that land start to take shape so that it can again be utilised instead of sitting empty,” said Mandy.
